Emmanuelle actor Sylvia Kristel dies

Sylvia Kristel, the first international sex star of the 1970s, has died at the age of 60. The Dutch-born actress who was closely connected with a role of Emmanuelle in a French film of the same name lost her ten-year battle with cancer.  "She died during the night during her sleep," her agent told the AFP news agency on Thursday. Dark haired model was cast in her 20s by the French director Just Jaeckin without any earlier acting experience. She played Emmanuelle, bored wife of a French diplomat in Bangkok seeking for solace in a variety of sexual encounters. The film changed the face of adult cinema and was one of the first erotic films shown in mainstream cinemas. It was an immediate hit in France and it was played in a cinema on the Champs-Elysees for 11 years. Kristel later starred in several Emmanuelle sequels produced also for television.  She moved to Hollywood and acted in mainstream films such as The Fifth Musketeer, The Nude Bomb or Lady Chatterley’s Lover. At that time she went through a drug and alcohol addiction but successfully recovered. In 1980s she stopped appearing nude on screen because of her son Arthur.
